Police Intercept Unlicensed Commercial Explosives Shipment in Western India

RAJKOT — Law enforcement authorities in the western Indian state of Gujarat intercepted a major consignment of commercial explosives during a transit inspection on the Rajkot-Gondal highway near the Kotharia Solvent district.

Police officers stopped a commercial transport pickup truck following targeted surveillance operations. A search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 1,500 kilograms of commercial blasting material, consisting of 12,000 gelatin sticks. Inspection units also recovered 4,000 electronic detonators along with 30 rolls of industrial blasting wire. Financial assessments value the seized material at approximately 5.95 lakh rupees.

Vehicle Driver Apprehended

The vehicle's driver, identified by police as Dolabhai Raghubhai Mir, was taken into custody after failing to present statutory transport permits or regulatory documentation required for hazardous materials. Initial custodial statements indicate that the shipment was dispatched by an unauthorized regional supplier named Mitul and intended for delivery to a recipient identified as Hira, alias Hiren Algotar. Search operations remain underway to locate both individuals.

Mining Belt Destination Under Investigation

The interception occurred shortly before national Independence Day observances, triggering immediate protocol checks by forensic teams and bomb disposal units. Preliminary investigative findings indicate that the commercial explosives were routed toward illegal stone quarrying and unregistered mining operations within the Than-Gadh mineral belt in Surendranagar district.

Formal legal proceedings have been initiated under the Explosive Substances Act. Investigative units continue to audit logistics chains to determine the original manufacturing source of the blasting agents.
